America is suffering from mass food poisoning. The food that you buy from the supermarket is highly processed and packed with chemicals. These harmful chemicals make the food taste good, but it has negative long-term side effects to your health.
Not only that, processed foods are a bargain – you get a good sized box for a few dollars. Because of that, many people are used to eating processed foods in large amounts. The result is that people grow fatter every day, and they become sicker everyday.

Americans eat 31 percent more packaged food than fresh food, and they consume more packaged food per person than their counterparts in nearly all other countries. A sizable part of the American diet is ready-to-eat meals, like frozen pizzas and microwave dinners, and sweet or salty snack foods.

Though you may think that processed foods are ‘clean’, they can be dangerous. Processed foods make your body enter an acidic state. When your body goes into an acidic state, it becomes a playground for diseases to grow.

The mass consumption of meat, grains and processed foods causes the body to become overly acidic, which strips it of minerals. Over the long haul, those who do not balance their diet with alkaline foods (fruits and veggies, primarily) become prone to weak bones, joints and muscles, heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and a host of other health problems.

Other health problems that can occur include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), insomnia, low energy levels, and inability to lose weight. Having diseases like this will put you on lots of medication. You end up having a difficult time sleeping and feeling miserable most of the time.
As the reference above states, to avoid entering an acidic state, you need to balance your diet with alkaline foods. When you eat enough of certain foods in an alkaline diet, you improve your health. Here is a brief guide on how an alkaline diet can help you stay healthy and lose weight.
What is an Alkaline Diet?
According to the Acid Alkaline Association:
An alkaline diet emphasizes alkaline foods such as whole fruits and vegetables and certain whole grains, which are low in caloric density. Healthy alkaline diet foods involve the ideal balance between acidifying and alkalizing foods.
And examples of alkaline foods that I eat are:
- Vegetables: beets, cucumber, kale, peppers, spinach
- Fruits: apple, banana, berries, grapes, lemon, watermelon
- Protein: almonds
The usual American eats mostly acidifying foods (including processed foods). When you eat too many acidifying foods, your body has to do extra work to process the excess acid. An alkaline diet works by reducing the work it takes to process the acid from the foods you eat. It is healthy since it emphasizes eating whole foods, fruits, and vegetables.
Please note that it doesn’t mean you avoid all acidifying foods. Some of these foods, such as meat, are important to eat as part of a well-balanced nutrition intake. But the point of an alkaline diet is to avoid acidifying foods that are bad and have little to no nutrition value.
An Example of an Alkaline Meal Plan
Once you understand the benefits and foundations of an alkaline diet, it’s time to make a meal plan. Creating a meal plan is important so that you can maintain a healthy eating habit. You can search the internet to find many alkaline diet meal plans.
Here is an example alkaline meal plan, taken from the Fat Diminisher book by Wes Virgin:
- Breakfast: fruits, vegetables, and the Fat Diminisher drink
- Snack: a cup of almonds
- Lunch: turkey wrap, one apple with a handful of raw vegetables
- Snack: one piece of string cheese
- Dinner: spicy chicken, side salad, and two tbsp. olive oil/vinegar dressing
- Before bed: your Fat Diminisher drink
Notice that the example above still contains acidifying foods (meat). But the acidifying foods come from a healthy and non-processed source. The Fat Diminisher drink is a special mixture that Wes discovered and drinks every day for optimum health and weight loss.
It may be difficult to follow a diet plan like the one above. Processed foods are abundantly available and cheap – that’s why many people eat them. - Try just one day of eating in an alkaline diet manner
- Or try just one meal consisting of mainly alkaline foods

Take the smallest step necessary to get you started. Once you get started, it’s easier to continue and grow. The less unhealthy foods and the more healthy foods you eat, the easier it is to lose weight.
